This week the group Christian Climate Action have been touring the would be fracking sites in the North Midlands. On Tuesday they congregated at the gates of Tinker Lane to add their voices in protest to a process that by its very nature will further exacerbate climate change. Singing hymns, reading from the Bible interspersed with spoken and silent prayers their presence at the gates should be an inspiration to all. Their songs of praise were much in evidence, heard above the sound of passing traffic and diesel generator, calling for a halt to the exploration for fossil fuels.
Such a pleasant spectacle on a busy afternoon and much appreciated by passing traffic, the sight of violinist and ensemble, where might have been expected excavators, dumper trucks and the other paraphernalia expected with trepidation in the near future by the local community.
So thanks to the good people of Christian Climate Action for their peaceful, powerful and poignant demonstration. We wish them every success in their efforts.
Christian Climate Action is a community of Christians supporting each other in acts of non-violent direct action, as a way of following Jesus Christ in the face of imminent and catastrophic anthropogenic climate change.
