The Government has issued a new draft National Planning Policy Framework for consultation. Of particular interest is page 58, Oil, Gas and Coal Exploration & Extraction paragraph 204.
Minerals Planning Authorities Should:
a) recognise the benefits of on-shore oil and gas development, including unconventional hydrocarbons, for the security of energy supplies and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy; and put in place policies to facilitate their exploration and extraction;
So MPA’s would be required to have policies in place that will encourage and guide the Frackers through a tame Planning Application/rubber stamping exercise. The MPA’s are the only regulators to date that have shown some bite and seemingly the Government is about to muzzle their activities that clearly have caused some upset particularly with INEOS. Democracy is about to take another hammering from this motley government.
Important that we respond to the consultation which closes on Thursday 10th May 2018.
