Judging from the early fallout from the decision taken by No. 10 to call a halt to Hinkley Point C the Frackers are poised to offer a solution. On Sky News this morning mention was made of a shale gas alternative.
Only a matter of time before this argument was developed and likely to be pursued by Lucky Jim and the rest of fracking fraternity. Unsurprisingly the Government, albeit late in the day recognise that the nuclear brand that would be Hinkley C is flawed, the technology is unproven and there is a national security concern over letting foreigners and certainly those from the orient (French and Germans are OK of course, they can be trusted) into such a strategically important industry.
You might imagine that within the rhetoric, yet to emerge, that forms the justification of the rejection, the benefits to the nation of having an indigenous fracked gas supply utilising a technology that is proven and safe etc. etc. will be developed.
Hopefully I’m wrong and just being plain stupid!
